Winter sports have finally come to a close and the Curtis girl’s Indoor tack and field team have had yet another fruitful season in both their field and running events. The throwing team has proved especially successful in their high placements. The unshakable sophomore Oreoluwa Ogunfuwa placed third overall at PSAL City Championships in the shot put, and then first place in both the shot put and weight throw at PSAL Freshman Sophomore City Championships.
Senior Olivia Nelson placed third overall in the shot put and weight throw at Staten Island Championships. Nelson later placed third overall again in the shot put and weight throw at Staten Island PSAL Borough Championships, and Zariah Dinkins, a junior, placed fourth in both events. The throwing squad achieved these great feats with a new coach, Coach Mia Wilson, who teaches Earth Science at Curtis. As she leaves the team for the outdoor season, her coaching will be missed by these champion-level athletes.
The indoor team’s secret to success doesn’t lie solely on the running events or a talented freshman as many may believe, but with these throwers, Ogunfuwa, Nelson, and Dinkins.
