The girls gymnastics team started their season off with a great win against Susan Wagner, and this contributed to them having such a successful season. New transfer Debora Simchayoff and juniors Allison Kuhn, Kate Reinhold, Calla DeGeorge, Lila Tirotta, and Calyese Cousins made for a fearsome team as they competed in various events. As a result, Curtis was able to place third in the city. From scoring a 99.350 on their first meet, to a high of 122.575 at the final city meet, the amount of hard work these girls put in to end their season on a high note was clear. The two captains Lila Tirotta and Allison Kuhn, along with Calla DeGeorge, got selected to represent PSAL at state championships, a huge accomplishment.
Coach Kristen Caputo felt that they “had one of the most challenging yet rewarding seasons this year. “We battled through injuries and newcomers to the team stepped up and helped propel our team throughout the sea- son. It’s a big accomplishment to place third in New York City and it’s because of the hard work, dedication and commitment from the team this year that helped us be so successful.” The full team will return next season. The Curtis team has a promising future ahead of them with promising underclassmen and team spirit.
