Guash keeps Curtis winning streak
Top Island bowler title remains at Curtis.
Boys Staten Island bowling individuals is a competition between the best bowlers in Staten Island. Curtis has had the reigning champion for three years. In 2014 and 2015 Thomas Hollywood of the class of 2016 claimed the coveted title, and this year senior Jonathan Guash continued Curtis’ streak.
Guash started his three game series bowling a 288 a near perfect game,a 235, and 224; leading the competition by 48 pins. His final scores added up to an astounding 747. In comparison the runner up from Tottenville had a 699 pin series. Guash garnered first place in the tournament and nearly made borough history, coming in second place behind a New Dorp bowler who scored a 767 in 2011.
“John’s first place finish today is the culmination of four years of hard work and countless hours on the lanes. He hasn’t been too happy with his bowling lately, but he really stepped it up today. I couldn’t be more proud of him and couldn’t be happier for him and his parents. It’s a great accomplishment,” said bowling coach Mr. Neglia.
“Winning borough individuals was a culmination of all my hard work I’ve put in for the past four years. I have never been happier than in those moments of competing and I’m going to miss it but to finish like that felt truly amazing,” said Guash.
