The album, “Me vs. Myself” didn’t deliver A Boogie’s iconic melodic rapping style. It contains 23 songs. Artists such as Roddy Rich, Tory Lanez, Lil Durk, etc. were featured. Some songs were enjoyable. He even paid tribute to the late PnB Rock by adding a new song that was long awaited. His album unfortunately failed to prove that he is one of the best in the melodic style rap genre. It can be purchased and played on many music streaming platforms.
The top songs from best to worst were “Friends With Benefits”, “Bounce Back”, “Turn Off The Radio”, “Ballin”, and “Take Shots”. “Friends With Benefits” explains the different aspects of a relationship and the things he has done when he became successful. This song in particular tells the story of his relationship with his girlfriend and can be relatable to many. “Bounce Back” is a song based on how he overcame struggles and reached to the top. It can be a motivational song that says, to win you have to take losses. “Turn Off The Radio” is about the downside of relationships and how having trust issues can impact a relationship. “Ballin” is a song that talks about how his wealth got him things that many dream of getting. However, “Take Shots” is a great song that emphasizes his incredible melodic rap style.
This album was not one of his best and he could have done better. He was missing a heartbreak song. His other albums featured better artists that matched his flow and had better lyrics that would be relatable to many. Many songs sounded similar due to the beats and some of the same lyrics. This album featured only a couple of hits. Due to the long wait, I expected something like his first album and his album Hoodie SZN which featured many hits. Considering he is the “goat” of melodic rap he could have taken more time to make this one of his best albums.
The songs were not the best considering him hyping up the album and how his previous albums were better. Even though I am a huge A Boogie fan this album didn’t hit like his others. He could have had fewer features and differentiated lyrics for each song. Most songs were based on the same concept and this led to the songs sounding similar. The album being delayed and his lack of confidence in the album doing well proved how even he thought this wasn’t his best. In all honesty, there should have been fewer songs and more quality in the lyrics and beats. Hopefully, he considers next time that everyone would like songs that are relatable and catchy. Lyrics are important and can bring popularity to his album. The better the lyrics the more they get used for captions for posts or get used in TikToks.
