While walking out of the school on Tuesday November 26, you may have noticed groups of people gathering around the outside of the fence. You may have even been pulled in by some of the people in attendance. Besides Curtis students and McKee students there was also members of the UFT from both schools as well as
Charles Donohue, D.A. Michael E. McMahon and Chris Alena the Curtis UFT representative.
This walk was designed to highlight the safety corridor and show a united front against violence in the community.The safety corridor is a designated path for students to travel on their way to the ferry or the bus shelter. This event was created in response to a string of violent incidents that have happened in the St George community..
“I think it’s great to pave a clear pathway, there’s been a lot of violence around our school,” said teacher Anthony Formica. This event had also been an organized effort “to show a united community against violence” as explained by Ms. Belfiore, a math teacher.
