Since COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted, Curtis High School has been gradually coming back to a sense of normalcy as regulations change and student activities come back in full swing. One of the last things to return, was the bake sales. November 14th, 2023 was the first sale in nearly four years at Curtis High School, kicked off by the girls volleyball teams. Following them the next sale was hosted by the girls softball teams on December 5th.
Bake sales are not only are a hit amongst students and staff, with most of the goods being sold out by seventh period, but it has also proven to be an impressive form of fundraising, with the girl’s volleyball team making about $900 and the softball teams reportedly made even more. Bake sales now take the place that the vending machines once occupied, in between the old wing and auditorium, and run almost the entire school day.
All members of the team bring in baked goods, and other sweets. The morning usually has bagels and donuts. Pizza is ordered each period, usually at least ten pies per period with them selling out each time. One sophomore, Mercedes Johnson, expressed that the return of bake sales is “convenient and exciting.” The proceeds go to bettering our school in an engaging way that boosts daily morale for the community.
The fan favorite seems to be homemade brownies and the bagels.
