The creation of club rush, in 2016, helped usher in an new sense of school pride and community. Mr. Cogan started club rush in order to encourage students to get involved by joining clubs and engaging in school activities. To make this happen, club organizers set up tables in the cafeteria to collect signatures from students eager to join their clubs; these signatures are essential, as they help clubs keep in contact with new perspective members. As a result, club rush has been very effective in getting clubs started. One remarkable aspect of this journey has been the school’s partnership with other institutions, which has allowed students to collaborate and share experiences with peers from different backgrounds.
Over the years, Curtis High School has seen the birth and evolution of many different clubs. While not all 41 clubs are currently active, past clubs have left a lasting impact on the school’s culture. A past club that was very unique was The Simpsons Club, where they just simply watched the show after school. There are also new clubs like Colors Of The World Club and there are various mentoring clubs as well.
If you’re thinking about creating a club but don’t know how to, it is only a few easy steps: First you should find a common interest that isn’t already taken, then make sure you have at least three students to join and a staff advisor. Lastly, head to Mr.Cogan at room 133 and pitch your idea.
